Laura Jane Martin

Laura Jane Martin, second of the four children of Clark Fuller Martin and Belva Walbridge Swift, was born 21 November 1928 in Colfax, Whitman County, WA, where her father was helping run Jersey Creamery with his step-uncle Charles Bucher. Her first name was derived from her father’s mother, Laura Hart Martin.

The family would remain in Colfax throughout Laura’s lifetime, which unfortunately was all too brief. She passed away as a toddler about two months after the birth of younger sister Helen. Laura’s date of death was 6 October 1931. Her remains were interred in Colfax Cemetery.

(Note: The above birthdate and death date were obtained from cemetery records. A Washington Death Index record puts her death on the seventh, and lists an age-at-death that works out to a birthdate of 28 October 1928. Further corroboration is needed to be sure which record is more reliable.)
